Having confidence is one of the most valuable attributes a person can have. Just try to imagine an insecure person leading a company. Unless you are extremely talented, you need more than intelligence in order to have some success in your field.
If you are a shy person like me, you need to step up in the game of life and be confident in your abilities and potential. Without further delay, here are my 5 tips on how to increase your confidence.
Avoid negative people
It may sound cruel, but the best thing you can do with negative people is to avoid them. If given the opportunity, negative people will consume your positive energy and during the process, they will drown you in theirs. For what might take you months to build, for a negative person would take minutes to destroy. So, try to get away from negative people and instead, seek to surround yourself with safe and positive people.
Improve your body language
How can a person that you barely know, think that you are insecure or negative? There are several things that could sell you out, for example; a weak tone of voice, the way you walk or even your standing posture.
If you want to increase self-confidence, start by improving your posture. You will see that the people around you will immediately notice the difference. Another thing that you might want to improve is your tone of voice. You don’t have to raise your voice to be heard, just feel confident and talk as such.
If you want an example, pay close attention to the mannerism of successful people. What do they all have in common? Yes, they all seem confident in themselves!
Pretend to be confident
Practice makes perfection, and something similar can be said about pretending and believing. If you pretend that you are confident, you will eventually come to believe that you are. It could take weeks or months, but you will get there.
Practice by talking to strangers in the coffee shop or to co-workers that don’t know you. At first, you will feel strange because you are acting but do what you must to get where you want to be (just don’t do bad stuff).
Take care of your mind and body
The fastest way to start feeling better about oneself is when we exercise our body. When you take care of your body, not only your health improves but your self-esteem and confidence do too. And that happens because when our body feels powerful our mind does too and vice-versa. Exercise for a couple of months and you will see that the way you walk will change, the way you talk will not be the same and your posture will explain.
Also, don’t forget to exercise the mind. My recommendation is to read at least one book a month. Remember that the brain is also a muscle, if you don’t present challenges to it, it will weaken. Back to the body; In order to get good results from exercising you only need to perform some moderate to intense physical activity around 3 to 5 days a week.
When you are a goal oriented person, you come to love that feeling of satisfaction every time that you accomplish something. Some people might tell you that being ambitious is a bad thing and I am here to tell you that it is really not if you have the right mindset. You can be ambitious when it comes to your betterment or the betterment of others. You can achieve personal or life goals without hurting others peoples chances at success. In fact, if you are a righteous person, you will take people with you on your way up.
Be advised that in order to take on bigger and better goals, you must be ambitious, persistent and disciplined. You also need to be obsessed with your self-improvement and you need to be humble and let others teach you. Make sure that you start with small and reachable targets before you go after bigger things. Review your goals on a daily basis and track your progress on a monthly basis. What better confidence booster than knowing that you are getting results.
